Meet the Committee
Have a read about our committee members and ask us anything, we won't bite!
Ruth Price
Chair
I sing soprano in the choir.
I joined CAOS in my first week at the University of Manchester and I joined the committee in my second year as Choir Librarian. I was then Secretary in my third year, and am now Chair on the committee.
CAOS is a welcoming society with plenty to get involved in whether you sing, play, or both - come along to a rehearsal and see for yourself!
Joshua Fogg
Secretary
Hey all, I'm Josh! I'm a third year math student and current secretary for CAOS. I've played clarinet in the orchestra since first year, and just love the people and friendly atmosphere they bring. Residential in particular is great fun and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
The orchestra is incredibly welcoming to people of all ability. My favourite of the pieces we've played is Brahms Hungarian Dances, though the James Bond medley from the Winter 2016 concert was also a blast.
Kitty Byrne
Treasurer
Hey, I’m Kitty and I’m a second year Maths Student at the University of Manchester. I joined CAOS in my first year on Clarinet and I have loved it ever since! As treasurer of the society, I’ll be handling the society’s finances and working closely with other committee members to plan some great events and concerts.
The orchestra play some fabulous repertoire and there is chance to do collaborations with the choir and other members within the society – I’d recommend it to all musicians!
Social Secretaries
Amy Tyrrell
Hi, I’m Amy and I’m a third year English and American Literature student at MMU. I joined CAOS a year ago and play flute in the orchestra and sing soprano in the choir. Joining the society was definitely the best thing I did last year and I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone.
This year at CAOS is sure to be amazing and I can’t wait to plan some amazing things for us all!
Meg Kirkman
Hi I'm Meg, I'm a second year physics student and I play the flute. I've really enjoyed the musical and social sides of the society, especially the karaoke night! Looking forward to planning plenty of fun socials this year!

Matt Burton
Publicity Secretary
Hi, I am the publicity secretary this year. I play the cello in the orchestra and I am studying Physics at the university. I joined CAOS two years ago and since the first week I have had a great time going to many of the social events throughout the year, including residential. The rehearsals and concerts are fun to be a part of.
CAOS is a friendly society and everyone is welcome to join.
Emily Caldwell
MMU Representative
I play second violin in the CAOS orchestra and I am studying Geography in my second year at the Manchester Metropolitan University. MMU’s music department and society is based at their Cheshire campus which would be too far for me to travel to, so I really appreciated CAOS being open to all students in Manchester when I joined in my first few weeks at university. Everyone in CAOS is really friendly and welcoming and no matter what your musical ability there is always a place for you!
